| We would
like to encourage you to conduct teen focus groups as
part of your participation in National Teen Pregnancy
Prevention Month. They're a great way to find out what
young people in your community think about teen pregnancy
and related issues. Keep in mind that you can choose to
conduct formal or informal focus groups; set yours up
whichever way will work best for you. The main difference
between the two is the method of recruiting participants
while formal focus groups try to obtain a group
of participants that is representative of the target population,
informal focus groups can be organized with a group that
already hosts regular meetings of teens (such as a church
or synagogue, community center, or youth program like
Boys and Girls Clubs). Informal groups are much easier
to organize; however, the results of formal focus groups
may be considered more valid, which is important if you
plan to release the results to the public.
The links below are intended to help you organize a
focus group. You might also find some of the information
helpful if you are planning a youth forum or "town
hall meeting."
